Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi intend to use these technologies to mass-produce a new generation of electric motors and batteries with a range of over 600 kilometres based on the New European Driving Cycle by 2020. Twelve purely battery-driven models based on common platforms and using proprietary components are planned by 2022.
The Alliance also intends to make rapid progress in the field of automated driving: the partners are aiming to develop 40 models with autonomous driving functions by 2020. A highly automated Level 4 vehicle is planned for launch in 2022. Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi also plans to develop into one of the most important robot taxi service providers.
"Alliance 2022" to promote synergies and increase revenues
The fourth-largest car maker in the world is targeting cost savings of up to ten billion euros through these synergies. Up to nine million vehicles per year are to be built on four common platforms, and the proportion of common powertrains is to increase from one third to three quarters of the total volume. Sales of 14 million vehicles per year and revenues of $240 billion are forecast for 2022.
