The knowledge of the thermal contact resistance between two components adjacent to each other is of great relevance in many technical applications and also in the interpretation of thermally and mechanically loaded component connections. The example for this are the interfaces of cylinder head/gasket/engine block, cylinder liner/engine block, cylinder head/exhaust manifold and valve/ seat ring/cylinder head.
