Abstract

The article introduces a new approach to modeling the contact of rough surfaces using bearing ratio curves, which represents a significant advancement over traditional methods that rely on combined roughness concepts. The novel model, based on a logistic approximation, offers a more accurate and practical solution for predicting contact behavior under light loads. The study compares this model with the widely accepted Gaussian deterministic model and experimentally validates its superior performance. By employing spectrometric analysis, the authors demonstrate that the logistic probabilistic model more accurately predicts mean separation distances between surfaces in contact. This work has the potential to enhance understanding and prediction of adhesion, friction, wear, and other contact-related phenomena in engineering practice.
