Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical aspects of modeling risk and precautionary time factors in evacuation simulations, particularly under fire emergencies. It discusses the integration of exit and route selection models into crowd simulation frameworks, highlighting the challenges and limitations of current approaches. The authors introduce two essential factors—risk factor and precautionary time—that significantly influence evacuees' decisions. The risk factor model considers the interaction between evacuees and risky sources, while the precautionary time model accounts for the instinctive behavior of evacuees in maintaining a safe distance from threats. These models are validated through simulations, demonstrating their effectiveness in improving evacuation performance and safety. The chapter also presents a comparison with existing models, showcasing the superiority of the proposed approaches in enhancing decision-making and overall evacuation outcomes.
