Abstract

This chapter delves into the modeling of ordinal responses, which are categorical variables that follow a natural sequence, such as ratings and satisfaction scales. Unlike unordered choices, ordinal responses represent different levels of the same entity on a single dimension. The chapter explains how to adapt the discrete choice framework to model these responses, introducing the ordinal logit model and its extensions. Practical examples, such as modeling satisfaction with public transportation, illustrate the application of these models. The chapter also covers advanced topics like proportional odds, non-proportional odds models, and multivariate ordinal models, making it a valuable resource for specialists in statistical modeling and discrete choice analysis.
