Abstract

This chapter introduces modularized suspended building structures, which can be categorized as mega-sub control configurations with precast/prefabricated components. Intrinsic seismic attenuation mechanisms of passive-control suspended buildings are illustrated mainly from the perspective of a large-mass-ratio TMD-structure system. The structural features of prefabricated modular structures are summarized before modularization of the secondary structure within the suspended building is proposed to induce a harmless pattern of secondary-structure-inter-story drift. Shake-table experiments are also conducted. The results of those investigations show that the modularized suspended building has a satisfactory multi-mode tuning effect induced by the aforementioned inter-story drift pattern, and thus an enhanced seismic control performance.
