Abstract

The study delves into the moisture sorption isotherms and hysteresis of cellulose, hemicelluloses, and lignin isolated from birch wood, highlighting their individual and collective effects on wood hygroscopicity. It investigates the influence of these components on wood's equilibrium moisture content (EMC) and hydroxyl content, employing the accessible sorption site occupancy (SSO) model to predict EMC values. The research also explores the impact of lignin on birch wood hysteresis, providing insights into the complex interplay of wood chemical components and their role in moisture adsorption and desorption processes.
