Abstract

The article delves into the properties of binary sequences used in telecommunications and remote sensing, specifically focusing on the autocorrelation demerit factor. It introduces a novel combinatorial method to calculate the moments of the demerit factor, providing exact formulas and insights into the distribution of autocorrelation values. The method is applied to calculate the variance, skewness, and kurtosis of the demerit factor, highlighting the non-negativity and positivity of these moments. The article also discusses the asymptotic behavior of the demerit factor and its implications for the design of binary sequences in telecommunications.
