Abstract

This chapter focuses on the monitoring of ground surface deformation induced by geothermal energy extraction in the Caofeidian District of North China's Bohai Bay. Using Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology, the study analyzes ground deformation patterns from October 2018 to May 2022. The research identifies four distinct deformation zones, with concentrated subsidence observed in the western Nanpu development zone and the eastern Caofeidian new district. The study reveals that the average subsidence velocities in these zones are -15.13 mm/a and -14.39 mm/a, respectively, with a maximum cumulative ground subsidence deformation of -389.8 mm. The deformation mechanisms are linked to groundwater extraction and urban development activities, highlighting the importance of sustainable geothermal resource management. The study provides valuable insights into the environmental impacts of geothermal energy extraction and offers a reference for rational geothermal energy development planning.
