Abstract

The article delves into the critical role of sincerity in political campaign messaging. It examines how moral rhetoric and extreme positions can signal a politician's commitment to their platform, influencing voter perceptions of trustworthiness. The research, supported by survey experiments, reveals that moralized stances enhance sincerity perceptions without fueling polarization, while extreme positions may heighten polarization. The study also discusses the implications of these strategies on the broader political landscape, offering valuable insights for politicians navigating an era of cynicism and distrust.
