Abstract

This chapter delves into the multifaceted concept of motivation, highlighting the interplay between individual triggers and organizational incentives. It begins by defining motivation as a process that stimulates individuals to act in a certain manner, emphasizing the importance of aligning incentives from management with the motives of employees. The text introduces the Willingness/Capability Matrix, a powerful tool for identifying the most appropriate leadership approach based on an individual's skill and will levels. It also explores Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory, which distinguishes between motivators related to the content of work and hygiene factors related to the context of work. The chapter further discusses Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, providing a hierarchical model of human needs that influences motivation. Additionally, it addresses the importance of neurodiversity in the workplace, highlighting the benefits of inclusive practices and the role of incentives in supporting neurodivergent employees. The chapter concludes with a case study of Google's initiatives to engage and hire more people with disabilities, demonstrating practical applications of the discussed theories.
