Abstract

The article presents a method for detecting local defects in rolling-element bearings of induction motors using motor current signature analysis. It introduces a novel approach that combines Hilbert transform and empirical mode decomposition to enhance the detection of fault-related harmonics in stator currents. The method is tested under various conditions, including different loads and temperatures, and shows promising results in detecting defects on the inner ring, outer ring, balls, and cage of bearings. The study highlights the effectiveness of the proposed method in identifying faults that are difficult to detect with conventional techniques like FFT, making it a valuable resource for professionals aiming to improve the reliability and maintenance of induction motors.
