Abstract

The article discusses the challenges and innovations in hybrid fire testing (HFT) of structural elements, focusing on a multi-DOF test conducted at Liege University. It highlights the development of a PI controller-based procedure, the integration of a numerical substructure (NS) with a physical substructure (PS), and the successful execution of a three-DOF test on a half-scale steel column. The results demonstrate stability, compatibility of displacements, and equilibrium of forces, with trends closely matching numerical simulations. The research advances the field of HFT by addressing previous limitations and offering a robust method for realistic fire testing of structural components.
