Abstract

The chapter delves into the adoption of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) among digital natives and digital immigrants in Sweden. It begins by discussing the importance of secure authentication practices in the digital age and the limitations of traditional password-based methods. The study compares the MFA adoption rates and motivations between these two groups, revealing that while MFA is widely adopted, especially due to the mandatory use of BankID, voluntary adoption varies significantly. The research also examines general authentication behaviors, showing differences in password complexity and length between the groups. Notably, digital natives use longer passwords, while digital immigrants display better overall password behavior. The chapter concludes by discussing the implications of these findings for cybersecurity policies and the need for further research into age-related cybersecurity behaviors.
