Abstract

This study delves into the multifractal analysis of seismic energy fields preceding the Pedro Bay earthquake, offering a unique perspective on the preparation process of large-scale seismic events. The research focuses on the scale-invariant structure of seismic energy distributions, revealing significant changes in the width and asymmetry of seismic energy fields as the earthquake approached. By examining the Pedro Bay earthquake, which occurred in a remote and uninhabited terrain, the study highlights the importance of seismic data in understanding earthquake preparation processes. The analysis uses data from the USGS seismic catalog, applying multifractal measures to model seismic energy spatial distributions. The results demonstrate the potential of multifractal analysis as a method for seismic monitoring and quantitative characterization of earthquake preparation. The study also provides a physical interpretation of the observed effects, contributing to the broader understanding of seismogenesis and the behavior of seismogenerating systems.
