Abstract

The chapter introduces multiparameter mapping (MPM), a technique in quantitative MRI that estimates absolute physical metrics from brain tissue. Unlike conventional MRI, MPM aims to quantify parameters such as relaxation rates and proton density, offering greater specificity and sensitivity to microstructural properties. The ESTATICS model is highlighted for its ability to estimate these parameters efficiently. The chapter also covers data processing steps, including registration, bias correction, and noise reduction through adaptive smoothing techniques. Practical R-code examples and detailed explanations of correction methods are provided, making this chapter a valuable resource for specialists in neuroimaging and medical physics.
