Abstract

The chapter discusses the critical role of remote sensing in monitoring and predicting forest health conditions, particularly in the context of Mediterranean pine forests in Italy. It focuses on the Toumeyella parvicornis outbreak, which has significantly impacted these forests. The study utilizes the 3I3D algorithm on Sentinel-2 time-series data to predict forest disturbances, providing valuable insights into the spread and magnitude of damage. The results show an increasing trend in damaged areas over the years, with an abrupt increase in 2022, underscoring the urgent need for effective monitoring and management strategies. The chapter highlights the reliability and effectiveness of remote sensing techniques in providing timely and accurate information for forest conservation efforts.
