Navigating the 5.0 Transitions: Strategic Management Insights from the HF/E Perspective

This chapter delves into the strategic management insights of Industry 5.0 from a human factors and ergonomics (HF/E) perspective, emphasizing the need for a human-centric approach in digital technologies. It explores the importance of up-skilling and re-skilling workers and aims for modern, resource-efficient, and sustainable industries. The analysis focuses on Finland as a case study, examining the country's digitalization strategies and their impact on competitiveness and well-being. The chapter identifies key performance indicators (KPIs) from various international sources that are relevant to HF/E goals, such as labor productivity and employee well-being. It also discusses the limitations of traditional KPIs in measuring the progress towards Industry 5.0 visions, highlighting the need for new indicators that reflect digitalization and employee skills. The findings suggest that current policy systems and KPIs are not mature enough to drive the paradigmatic change towards human-centric 5.0 visions, emphasizing the role of HF/E in this transition.
