Abstract

The article delves into the significant threat posed by Neoscytalidium novaehollandiae to urban forest trees, detailing its causal role in tree decline and dieback. It emphasizes the global impact of urbanization on natural habitats and the crucial role urban trees play in environmental sustainability. The study identifies various symptoms of tree decline, including blight and necrosis, and discusses the factors contributing to the emergence of this pathogen, such as alien invasive fungi and climate change. The research also explores the ecological significance of insects and termites as reservoirs and vectors of this fungal pathogen, shedding light on their potential for horizontal transmission. The article concludes with a discussion on the high population of infected hosts in Tehran Province, the need for further study on pathogen dispersal mechanisms, and the importance of targeted management strategies to protect urban forests.
