Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical security aspects of the Internet of Drones (IoD) within the Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) architecture. It introduces a novel mutual authentication and key agreement (MAKA) protocol designed to secure drone communications, leveraging chameleon hash functions for enhanced security. The text explores the unique challenges posed by drones, including their susceptibility to various adversarial attacks such as man-in-the-middle, impersonation, and drone capture attacks. It provides an in-depth analysis of the proposed protocol's security properties, including mutual authentication, replay attack resistance, and anonymity. The chapter also compares the protocol's communication and computational costs with existing schemes, demonstrating its efficiency and effectiveness. Furthermore, it discusses the formal security analysis using Tamarin, verifying the protocol's robustness against key disclosure attacks and ensuring perfect forward secrecy. The conclusion highlights the protocol's enhanced security features and suggests future work to improve efficiency, particularly in handling a large number of registered entities.
