Abstract

As a new tool of hard rock breaking, abrasive slurry jet (ASJ) is of great potential in tunneling and mining. Therefore, this paper presents a new system, shearer drum assisted by ASJ, to exploit thin seam with complex geology, in which coal rock will be broken by the coupled forces of ASJs and cutting picks. Then, an orthogonal experiment is carried out to study the effects of parameters (mass fraction of polymer additives, jet pressure, impact angle, standoff distance, and impact time) on the ASJ ability in rock breaking. Furthermore, a prediction model is established to quantify the rock breaking ability of ASJ with different parameters based on the multivariable linear regression method. Results show that only impact angle has a significant effect on the crushing pit width, and the jet pressure, impact angle, and impact time are the significant effect parameters on the crushing pit depth. The conclusions can provide theoretical and data support for designing the most efficient system of ASJ and shearer drum in thin seam exploiting.
