Abstract

The article delves into the complex magnesia-carbon reaction in refractories, highlighting the pivotal role of superoxide free radicals in influencing oxidation resistance. It presents a comprehensive study on how different magnesia compositions, activated through processes like cold plasma treatment, affect the reaction kinetics and oxidation activity. The research underscores the significance of oxygen vacancies and superoxide free radicals in determining the oxidation resistance of magnesia-carbon refractories, providing valuable insights into improving their performance in high-temperature environments. By comparing the oxidation resistance of various magnesia samples, the study offers practical implications for enhancing the durability and efficiency of refractories used in iron and steel metallurgy.
