Abstract

The article presents the synthesis and characterization of nitrogen and sulfur co-doped mesoporous hollow carbon spheres (NSHCSs) for high-rate sodium ion storage. Using ionic liquids as precursors, the NSHCSs exhibit excellent electrochemical properties, including a specific capacity of 124.7 mAh g^-1 after 900 cycles at 5.0 A g^-1. The hollow structure and heteroatom doping synergistically enhance the sodium storage properties by providing a large electrochemical reaction interface, shortening the sodium ion diffusion path, and increasing the interlayer spacing of the carbon matrix. The study offers a facile method for preparing advanced carbonaceous materials for sodium-ion batteries, highlighting the potential of these materials for large-scale energy storage applications.
