Abstract

The chapter delves into the potential of calcium aluminate cement (CAC) as a sustainable alternative to Portland cement in engineered cementitious composites (ECC). It examines the unique properties of CAC, such as rapid hardening and high early strength, and explores how these properties impact the fresh and hardened states of ECC. The study also investigates the role of fly ash in mitigating the conversion of metastable phases in CAC, thereby enhancing the mechanical and durability properties of ECC. The research compares the performance of CAC-ECC with and without fly ash, highlighting the trade-offs between compressive strength, flexural strength, ductility, and shrinkage. The findings offer valuable insights into the potential of CAC to revolutionize the construction industry while providing a sustainable solution for resilient infrastructure.
