Abstract

The article introduces a novel method for creating Fe0 embedded alginate beads coated with CuO-Fe3O4, designed as a sustainable catalyst for the photo-Fenton degradation of oxytetracycline in wastewater. The study addresses the challenges of using nano-/micro-sized powder catalysts in suspension systems, such as poor reusability and low absorption in visible light. The authors developed a core-shell bead structure that incorporates Fe0 as a sustainable source of Fe2+, controlled by a CuO-Fe3O4 shell. The catalyst's stability, characterization, and performance in degrading OTC were extensively analyzed. The results show that the CuO-Fe3O4-Fe0/Abs catalyst exhibits high degradation efficiency and stability, making it a promising candidate for large-scale industrial applications. The study also explores the mechanism behind the photo-Fenton process and the catalyst's reusability, demonstrating its potential for practical field applications.
