Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical issue of subgrade deformation under dynamic loads from railway traffic, focusing on the long-term effects of subgrade soil deformation and damage. It introduces an alternative reinforcement method that involves the use of reinforced concrete binding of the ballast layer, acting as a foundation to transmit lower stresses to the subgrade. The study employs a sophisticated finite element model to analyze the stress-strain state of the subgrade, comparing strengthened and non-strengthened options. Key findings reveal that the reinforced concrete binding significantly improves the stress-strain state by redistributing horizontal and vertical stresses, leading to more uniform stress distribution and reduced displacements. The chapter highlights the potential of this reinforcement method to enhance the durability and performance of railway subgrades, offering a promising solution for addressing subgrade-related issues in railway infrastructure.
