Abstract

The article delves into the critical factors affecting the mechanical properties of oval mortise and tenon (M–T) joints, particularly the contact force, which is vital for the performance of outdoor wooden furniture. It examines the influence of moisture content, interference fit, and grain direction on the contact force, utilizing experimental methods, finite element analysis, and theoretical modeling. The study aims to deepen the understanding of the mechanical behavior of M–T joints, which is crucial for their application in rainy outdoor environments. The research combines direct measuring methods, finite element simulations, and a theoretical model to provide a holistic view of the contact force distribution and stress state within the joints. Additionally, the article presents response surfaces of contact force based on the geometrical parameters of the oval tenon, offering valuable insights for optimizing the design and performance of wooden furniture structures.
