Abstract

This study delves into the seismic performance of reinforced masonry shear walls, comparing partially grouted (PG) and fully grouted (FG) designs. The research employs advanced numerical modeling techniques, validated against experimental data, to assess the collapse probability of these walls under seismic loads. Key findings reveal that PG walls, which use approximately 40% less material, exhibit only a slightly higher collapse probability compared to FG walls. Notably, the study highlights that PG walls perform better at lower spectral accelerations, suggesting their potential for use in regions with varying seismic activity. The research concludes that PG masonry walls may offer an economically viable and structurally sound alternative for seismic-resistant construction, paving the way for more sustainable building practices.
