Abstract

The article delves into the numerical investigation of the bearing capacity of strip and rectangular shallow footings on cohesive frictional soils under eccentric loads. It examines the influence of various parameters such as Young's modulus, cohesion, surcharge, dilation, strain-softening, and interface roughness on the bearing capacity. The study compares the numerical results with established methods like Eurocode 7 and proposes revised formulas for bearing capacity and shape factors to improve the accuracy of existing theories. The research highlights the need for more accurate bearing capacity calculations, especially for soils with high cohesion and embedment, and underscores the importance of considering non-associated flow rules and realistic interface friction angles.
