Abstract

The chapter delves into the numerical investigation of the static and dynamic behaviour of an additively manufactured horizontal tail for a UAV. It explores the use of Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) technology to create complex internal geometries and optimise the design for additive manufacturing (DfAM). The study employs an elasto-plastic constitutive law to model the behaviour of the technopolymer material under mechanical loading. The research analyses the structural response to both static loads, as per aviation regulations, and low-velocity impacts, revealing the material's brittle nature and potential for localised damage. The findings demonstrate the feasibility of using additive manufacturing for lightweight and high-performance aerospace components, paving the way for further optimisations and industry applications.
