Abstract

This numerical study delves into the potential of rubber sand mixtures (RSM) reinforced with geogrids to enhance seismic base isolation for medium-rise buildings. The research focuses on the impact of varying RSM layer thickness and geogrid embedment depth on reducing seismic vibrations and settlements. Key findings include a 21-35% reduction in peak footing and roof accelerations with a 0.06 B_f thick RSM layer, and further improvements with geogrid reinforcement at a depth of 0.03 B_f. The study also explores the economic feasibility and practical application of the proposed method, making it a valuable resource for professionals seeking innovative solutions in seismic base isolation.
