Abstract

Nowadays, augmented reality systems must be as realistic as possible. A major issue of such a system is to present the augmentations as an integrated part of the environment. Sometimes the virtual parts must be placed and hidden partially or even totally behind a real object. This problem is known under the name of “occlusion problem”. In this paper we present a pragmatic solution to manage the occlusion problem based on the prior knowledge of the position and shape of the real objects in two particular scenarios. Only the conception and the qualitative evaluation of the developed system are detailed down the line.
