Abstract—

This article explores the assessment of oil pollution in the coastal marine waters of the Kamchatka Peninsula, focusing on the use of microbial indication methods. The study identifies key sources of oil pollution, including accidental spills and industrial discharges, and highlights the environmental impacts of these contaminants. The research employs both classical microbiological approaches and molecular genetic technologies to detect and monitor oil pollution, with a particular emphasis on the role of specific microorganisms and marker genes in the biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons. The findings reveal significant oil pollution in the study areas, with notable variations in the abundance of hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms and the presence of marker genes. The article concludes with insights into the dynamic nature of hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacterial communities and the need for regular monitoring to assess and mitigate oil pollution in the region.
