Wholesale change is underway in the market for display products. Instrument clusters are shifting from analog to digital. The demand for them is expected to decline, especially in electric vehicles as some carmakers omit clusters in favor of displays mounted more centrally on the dashboard. Interest in head-up- and virtual-reality displays can substitute for features provided by clusters. Displays have become central to consumer appeal. They are getting bigger, higher in resolution, brighter, and thus, more expensive. They offer touch-sensitive user inputs and the means with which to integrate a driver monitor camera. Display technology is proliferating. Most are versions of LCD technology but interest in OLED and micro-LED technology is growing.
