Abstract

Ensuring flight safety is one of the most important problems in aviation. Flight safety is determined by a large number of different factors. The ranking of these factors by their contribution to the accident rate, as well as the assessment of the accident rate itself, can be most reliably carried out, using statistical methods. Since aviation accidents are relatively rare events, a sufficient statistical sample can be obtained only with a flight of about 1.5 … 2 million hours. This is roughly equivalent to an annual flyover.
