Abstract
The scourge of online harassment has become a problem so severe that it threatens all that is good about social media. Platforms that were once lauded as media that could give equal voices to all, that would improve transparency and access, and that would help keep us all in contact over time and distance are now riddled with humans and bots that spew hate, threats and vitriol at anyone, but especially at women, people of color, and the vulnerable. Pew reports that as of 2017, 41% of Americans have been subjected to online harassment and 66% have witnessed it. We have already seen harassment drive people off social media and transition into offline harassment.
