Abstract

The chapter discusses the critical role of transmission line protection in power system reliability and the importance of accurate and quick fault location. It introduces the Oppositional Artificial Hummingbird Algorithm (OAHA) as a novel solution for fault location optimization, inspired by the navigational skills of hummingbirds. The OAHA algorithm is compared with traditional methods based on impedance measurement and traveling waves, highlighting its superior performance in terms of accuracy and speed. The study presents simulation results for various fault types and resistances, demonstrating the algorithm's effectiveness and potential for real-world applications in power system management.
