Abstract

The article discusses the challenges and solutions for optimal loop power flow control in power distribution systems. It introduces the concept of using advanced metaheuristic algorithms to manage load flow behavior and improve system performance. The study compares ten state-of-the-art algorithms, including PSO, GWO, and WOA, to find the best solution for minimizing power losses and enhancing system reliability. The methods are validated through a real-world case study of a steelworks plant in Spain, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed EMS–LPC method. The results show significant power savings and improved performance, with the AEO algorithm proving to be the most efficient in terms of both optimum value and convergence time. The study highlights the potential of metaheuristic algorithms in optimizing power flow control and reducing operational costs in loop distribution networks.
