Abstract

The article presents a novel optimization model for the optimal placement of distributed generation (DG) and distribution automation (DA) in the distribution grid. It aims to enhance operational, reliability, and economic objectives of the distribution system operator (DSO) by minimizing costs associated with construction, maintenance, and operation of DGs and DA, as well as technical indices like voltage deviation and energy not supplied (ENS). The model is formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear problem (MINLP) and linearized for practical implementation. Numerical results on a 33-bus radial system demonstrate significant improvements in network performance, including reduced voltage drop and enhanced reliability. The proposed scheme is validated using various solvers, highlighting the advantages of the linear approximation model in terms of computational efficiency and global optimality.
