Optimization of Cutting Parameters in Face Milling of Waspaloy Superalloy

Abstract

The chapter delves into the optimization of cutting parameters for face milling Waspaloy superalloy, a material renowned for its high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance. Waspaloy is used in critical components of aircraft engines, but its high cost and difficult machining properties pose challenges. The study focuses on minimizing cutting forces, a key factor in reducing production costs and increasing efficiency. Using the Taguchi method, the authors experimentally determine the optimal cutting parameters, including cutting speed, feed rate, and cutting tool type. The results show that the GC 2030 cutting tool, a cutting speed of 20 m/min, and a feed rate of 0.1 mm/tooth yield the lowest cutting forces. The study also validates these findings through additional experiments, demonstrating the practical applicability of the optimized parameters. The chapter offers valuable insights into the machining of superalloys, contributing to the advancement of manufacturing techniques in high-performance materials.
