Optimization Support Method for Cold and Warm Forging Dies of Non-axisymmetrical Forged Products

Abstract

The chapter introduces an innovative optimization support method for designing cold and warm forging dies of non-axisymmetrical forged products. It addresses the challenges of generating and evaluating die design plans, particularly for complex shapes like hexagon-head bolts and electronic connectors. The method combines exhaustive generation of die design plans with automated finite element method (FEM) analysis using robotic process automation (RPA) tools. This approach enables the efficient evaluation of a large number of design candidates, which is crucial for improving the efficiency and quality of forging processes. The chapter also discusses strategies for resolving undercuts caused by the rotation of forged products and presents experimental results demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method in generating alternative forging dies, including those equivalent to designs by experienced engineers but in a shorter time. The detailed design and evaluation procedures, as well as the implementation and experimental results, are comprehensively covered, making this chapter a valuable resource for professionals seeking to enhance their forging die design practices.
