Optimization using genetic algorithm of GMAW parameters for Charpy impact test of 080M40 steel

Abstract

The article delves into the optimization of GMAW parameters for 080M40 steel using a genetic algorithm, focusing on enhancing the strength of welds as measured by Charpy impact tests. The research investigates the effects of welding current, voltage, air gap, and groove design on weld integrity. The study employs response surface methodology and genetic algorithm to determine the optimal parameters, with the genetic algorithm proving effective in identifying the best settings for maximum impact energy. The results demonstrate that the optimal parameters significantly improve weld strength, with the genetic algorithm outperforming other optimization techniques. The research also includes a thorough analysis of the chemical composition of the steel and the welding process, providing valuable insights into the relationship between welding parameters and weld quality. The article concludes with a call for further research into additional welding parameters and the potential use of other optimization algorithms.
