Abstract

The article focuses on the development and optimization of electrospun Schiff-base alumoxane/PAN nanofibers for the adsorption of lead and cadmium ions from water. The study utilizes Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to identify optimal conditions for heavy metal removal, including pH, nanoparticle concentration, initial metal ion concentration, and contact time. The nanofibers are characterized using FTIR spectroscopy and SEM imaging, showing improved dispersion and reduced agglomeration. The results demonstrate high removal efficiencies of 97.22% for Pb(II) and 93.87% for Cd(II) under optimized conditions. The research also highlights the influence of pH on adsorption efficiency and the superior removal of lead over cadmium due to lead's lower pKa value, smaller ionic radius, and higher electronegativity. The study provides valuable insights into optimizing adsorption conditions for effective water purification.
