Abstract

This chapter explores the application of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for designing an optimized rain gauge network in the Middle Tapi Basin, focusing on flood management and hydrologic modelling. The study highlights the importance of strategic rain gauge placement, evaluating multiple criteria such as spatial coverage, data quality, and correlation with areal average rainfall. The AHP method is used to prioritize and select key rain gauges, which are then integrated into a hydrologic model to assess their performance. The results demonstrate that the AHP-designed network significantly improves the accuracy and efficiency of flood prediction models, reducing computational time and resources. The chapter concludes that the AHP approach offers a robust framework for enhancing hydrological applications and flood management strategies, which can be extended to other basins facing similar challenges.
