Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical role of disc screens in material recovery facilities (MRF) for efficient waste separation, addressing the growing challenges posed by increasing municipal solid waste. It highlights the significance of optimizing disc screen parameters, such as inclination angle and shaft speed, to enhance screening efficiency and reduce impurity content. The study presents a detailed experimental design and analysis using the Central Composite Design (CCD) method and Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to develop predictive models for screening efficiency. The results reveal optimal parameters for household and construction waste, demonstrating the potential for significant improvements in recycling processes. The chapter also provides valuable insights into the forces acting on materials during screening and the importance of tailored optimization for different waste compositions, making it an essential read for those interested in advancing waste management technologies.
