Abstract

The chapter delves into the optimization of exosuit design through simulation, specifically examining the impact of anchor point positions on metabolic consumption. It introduces a musculoskeletal model to systematically study the effects of varying attachment points on energy efficiency. The study is validated through experiments with a quasi-passive exosuit, XoSoft, which assists hip flexion and extension. The results reveal a significant influence of anchor point positions on metabolic consumption, with the sagittal component of the knee anchor point showing the highest correlation. The comparison between simulation and experimental data highlights discrepancies that point to areas for future research, such as refining model simplifications and optimizing prototypes for higher walking speeds. This work paves the way for advancements in wearable exoskeletons, promising enhanced performance and personalized solutions.
