Abstract

The article delves into the optimization of installation parameters for deep mixing (DM) columns in clay using the Taguchi method. DM columns are used to improve problematic soils through mechanical mixing with cementitious materials. The study focuses on the effects of cement dosage, rotational speed, nozzle diameter, and liquidity index on the strength and durability of DM columns. The Taguchi method is employed to design experiments and analyze the results, leading to the determination of optimal parameters for manufacturing DM columns with maximum strength and soil improvement ratio. The article also discusses the formation of an interface layer around DM columns and the physical and mechanical properties during the column installation process. Statistical evaluations, including S/N analysis and ANOVA, are used to validate the findings. The study provides valuable insights into the factors affecting the performance of DM columns and offers practical recommendations for improving their effectiveness in various soil conditions.
