Abstract

The article focuses on optimizing power system operations by integrating Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS) through advanced algorithms. It addresses the challenges posed by renewable energy sources, particularly wind power, and proposes a new optimization method using an extended honey bee colony algorithm. The study demonstrates how FACTS and ESS can enhance system stability, reduce operating costs, and improve the integration of renewable energy. The proposed algorithm is shown to outperform traditional methods like Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) in simulations on a large-scale 118-bus power system. The article highlights the practical implications of these technologies in optimizing power system operations and achieving economic and reliable performance.
