Abstract

This study delves into the mechanical properties of 3D-printed Polylactic Acid (PLA), a biodegradable thermoplastic polyester derived from renewable resources. The research focuses on developing a visco-hyperelastic model to accurately predict PLA's behavior under various conditions. The study employs experimental data from tensile and relaxation tests to validate the model, ensuring its reliability. The results demonstrate a good correlation between the model's predictions and experimental observations, particularly in the early and intermediate stages of relaxation tests. The study also identifies key material parameters and Prony series constants that characterize PLA's rate-dependent behavior. This research provides valuable insights into the mechanical properties of 3D-printed PLA, offering a robust model for predicting its behavior in various applications.
