Abstract

The study assesses the efficiency of lysimeter designs in measuring deep percolation through landfill covers using numerical modeling. It explores the impact of lysimeter dimensions and positions on flow regimes under two climatic conditions: continental (Canada) and humid subtropical (Florida). The analysis involves robustness tests to evaluate the efficacy of lysimeters based on their ability to not affect the flow regime. The results provide valuable insights into the optimal design criteria for lysimeters, emphasizing the importance of wall height and position relative to the surface. The study concludes that lysimeters designed according to the adapted linear method can provide reliable data, with specific design recommendations for different climatic conditions.
